Juried Undergraduate Exhibition - Reception: Friday, November 21, 5-7 pm

This favorite annual exhibition is a selection of the best entries from all four years of undergraduate students. The work is from a variety of media and is chosen by two selected jurors. 2014 jurors are artists and art professionals Laura Amussen and Dustin Carlson. Amussen is an award-winning artist, director of exhibitions at Goucher College, and an educator at Towson University. From large-scale, site-specific installations to intimate sculptures, her work involves a variety of concepts and media.

Amussen has experience in the medical field, which instilled in her an innate sensitivity for the human condition, she said. Her works often explore the psychological realms of humanity. She is drawn to large-scale interventions created specifically for environments as means to connect with a collective audience, yet offer space for individual contemplation. Her passion lies in the experience—the experience of researching, making, and sharing.

Carlson is an artist, curator, and co-founder and co-director of Gallery Four in Baltimore. Carlson’s work interprets society’s social constructs, examining both personal struggles and
observed behaviors. His current works involve creating full-scale sculptures of objects encountered in daily life, where the viewer is confronted with scenarios they experience daily, but in a new and unusual context. Carlson has exhibited extensively locally and nationally. His curatorial experience has brought national attention to artist-run spaces in Baltimore,
fostering a commitment of support within the local artist community.
