March-May Exhibitions

March 11-May 7, 2016, Gallery Hours: Wed-Fri 10AM-5PM, Sat-Sun 12-5PM

At Your Service, juried by nationally recognized ceramic artist Linda Arbuckle, in our Main Gallery; #atyourservice, a social media inspired spin-off in our Solo Gallery; The Creative Craft Council: OnTour in our Project Space and Youth, Art and Business: Social Enterprise at Jubilee Arts in our Community Arts Gallery.

At Your Service celebrates the serving vessel: platters, pitchers, trays, ewers, and more. Functional objects that hold their beauty when empty and flourish when laden with food. Our juror, Linda Arbuckle, has assembled a robust and vibrant cast of artists. Come and explore vessels that help to fulfill every day domestic tasks and those utilized for more elaborate

In our Solo Gallery, a specially curated group of functional artists that all utilize social media will be on view. #atyourservice will continue to examine the art of serving vessels and how that service is shared. How many ceramics lovers photograph their tables before sitting down to dinner with friends? In what ways does this promote artists and their work? How is social media and technology being used by those who work in clay to share the importance of craft and hand-made?

Creative Craft Council: On Tour features the work of artists from fine craft guilds in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. This is a traveling exhibition from the Gray Gallery in Winchester, VA and was juried by Nora Atkinson- the new Lloyd Herman Curator of Craft at the Renwick Gallery, Frederick L. Wall- furniture maker, sculptor and retired professor at the Corcoran College of Art & Design, Shana Kroiz- jewelry and enamel artist who founded The Jewelry Center at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Youth, Art and Business features teenage youth in the Art and Business after school program at Jubilee Arts, one of Clayworks' westside Clay for All! satellite studios. This program explores the arts as they relate to the economy, employment and marketable skills. Sales from this exhibition directly benefit the community arts program at Jubilee and the teens that created the artwork. The creative skills necessary in art-making directly translate to opportunity in industry and are important part of a young person's education and development. Help support a young artist in their pursuits!
