ATTENTION COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY FACULTY MEMBERS
Post Date: March 16
If you are training the next generation of artists and cultural organization leaders to work in community-based arts, arts administration, museum studies, or as public scholars in the arts or humanities, Animating Democracy is now offering workshops in arts and civic engagement that may complement your curriculum. We're booking workshops for fall 2007 and spring 2008, and we invite you to review the description on our website for more details. Please also visit our website for more information about Animating Democracy and our publications, which contain in-depth case studies, principles and practices of arts-based civic engagement work, and a multivoiced collection of critical writings about arts-based civic dialogue work. Animating Democracy offers lively and interactive half-day, one-day, and two-day workshops that explore concepts, principles, and practices of arts-based civic engagement and dialogue. The programs are based on the discoveries of cultural organizations and artists across the country that took part in the national Animating Democracy initiative. As artists and cultural organizations offer their creative capacities to encourage and facilitate greater civic participation, they are motivated and challenged by the responsibility of working on civic issues that affect people in real ways. These artists and cultural organizations often find they need to clarify their civic role in relation to their mission and priorities. They want to know how best to tap their artistic resources. And they want strategies for designing and implementing meaningful civic engagement. Animating Democracy workshops offer insights and practical approaches to addressing these opportunities and challenges. We hope you'll consider sponsoring a workshop program as a stand-alone training program or linked to another relevant event. Please feel free to contact one of us to find out how we can best meet your needs and those of the artists and arts professionals you serve. If interested please contact Pam Korza at 413.256.1260, pkorza@artsusa.org or Barbara Schaffer Bacon at 413.253.1711, psbacon@artsusa.org

SUBMIT YOUR ACTION BASED VIDEO WORK TO ACTION ARCHIVE
Post Date: October 26
ACTION ARCHIVE is a distribution office for action-based video work: ACTION ARCHIVE is founded to spread and improve the presentation of action-based practices by distributing video work with film festivals and art institutions globally.” Action-based work” is in this context understood to be work that is concerned with activities such as real-life performances, public interventions and the use of so-called tactical media practices. However, the term is used loosely and ACTION ARCHIVE will represent any short video work that deals with the concept of reality in an innovative, interesting or entertaining way. A committee of relevant curators - all of whom have developed important works in the field themselves - will select all admissions to ACTION ARCHIVE in collaboration with Wooloo Productions. Once a work is admitted in the ACTION ARCHIVE, it will be distributed among film and art professionals for feedback and distribution possibilities. Subsequently, works will be presented at relevant festivals and screenings in which the ACTION ARCHIVE participates. Please note that creators of work admitted to the ACTION ARCHIVE retain all rights to their work. Should they wish so, their work will be removed from the ACTION ARCHIVE without further notice. For more information please email contact@wooloo.org

HELP CREATE SHAPETIONARY!
Post Date: January 19
What is the Shapetionary? It’s a visual index of objects! It started from looking at the dictionary and wondering why some words are illustrated and others aren't and thinking it would be interesting to illustrate the whole dictionary or all the object nouns...then organize them by shape. So I extracted all, or most (aprox 9500), of the object nouns, now I am setting out to get them illustrated by as many different people as possible. I am interested in our subjective/collective understandings of objects. So far over 400 people are participating; I estimate that between 1200-1500 drawers are needed. If you are interested in illustrating some words, I will send you a list of 6-8 words, along with full instructions. Email me at velvetbicycle@hotmail.com

SEEKING EXPERIENCED DANCER TO TEACH 5-8TH GRADERS
Post Date: February 2
I am looking for an experienced dancer to volunteer to teach inner city 5th-8th graders hip-hop. We have a space in the 21211 zip code and at least one adult per class to deal with administrative and disciplinary (if needed) duties. This would be a great internship for an experienced dancer who wants to start teaching more. To tell you a bit about the class, it's a great group of students who love to dance but who could benefit from seeing a side of dance that is not related to television or clubbing. As well, the setup of the class is an hour and half (with the teacher there for 45 minutes to an hour). The time that the dance teacher is not teaching is to let the students unwind and to hopefully learn a bit about the history of dance, stretch, etc (this section will not be taught by the dance teacher unless they would like to) In summary, I hope that this class will teach the students dance, as well as teach leadership skills and community building. Please contact me at 410.261.3510 or at vder@greaterhomewood.org

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS & INTERNS
Post Date: January 5
Career Cluster Art is a new art form. I am eager to find artists and to see art samples. The arts have been under-funded for decades. Career Cluster Arts enables people to use the arts as a research tool or learning experience to connect to career clusters. Examples: 1. For the health and bioscience career cluster, a person might make a clay pancreas instead of a clay pot; 2. A person could make a collage of tire tread or hub cap designs for the transportation technologies cluster. Maryland has 10 career clusters. I am enthusiastic about talking to government agencies, associations, museums, foundations or other nonprofits to develop curriculum, programs, outreach, research and products. Possible audiences are arts educators, after-school program developers, parents and schools. Career Cluster Art also may help schools with retention and attendance issues. I have taught educational courses including history of education, educational psychology, measurement and evaluation, social science education, reading and media. Please contact Cheryl Moore, Ph.D., at 410.542.3595 or via cmoore5@mindspring.com
