“Saving Myself for Steve Martin” by Ann V. Wixon

BALTIMORE – July 22, 2015. The Strand Theater Company takes part in the renown Baltimore Playwrights Festival, currently in its 34th season, to present a premiere production of I Am Saving Myself for Steve Martin, by Ann V. Wixon. Divorced, forty-five, and facing an uncertain future, Eve attends her first SWASS (Single Women Actively Seeking Sex) meeting. Directed by Miriam Bazensky. Performed by Karin Rosnizeck.

The production will run Thursdays through Saturdays, July 23 through August 8 at 8pm (no show on August 1st), and Sundays July 26th and August 2nd at 2pm. About the Playwright

Ann V. Wixon is a native Washingtonian. She is a copywriter and playwright. "Saving Myself for Steve Martin" was selected by Kitchen Dog Theater in association with The National New Play Network as 'one of the newest, most exciting voices and visions of the American theater,' and received a staged reading as part of the Festival. She was Playwright in Residence for American Ensemble Theater (July 2010-July 2011) where the play also received a staged reading. Ann is a member of The Dramatists Guild of America.

About the Baltimore Playwrights Festival

The Baltimore Playwrights Festival is in its 34th season of showcasing plays by Maryland and Washington, DC authors, and has presented over 250 productions by 160 playwrights at 20 different theaters. Each fall there are public readings of plays that have been reviewed by a group of independent readers, and a select few are chosen for the next summer’s Baltimore Playwrights Festival. Local theaters host these productions in their final form, after authors have fine tuned the plays in a collaborative process with directors and actors. Further information can be found at www.baltplayfest.org.

About the Strand

The Strand Theater Company champions challenging and provocative theater that especially celebrates women’s diverse voices and perspectives while bringing together the creative talents of both women and men as artists, technicians, and administrators. We invite patrons to experience some of the region’s best contemporary and reinterpreted works for the stage in our intimate midtown theater.

Since launching in 2008, the Strand has presented 24 full-length plays, including ten World Premieres; offered 75% of the artistic positions on its productions—as playwrights, directors, designers, stage managers, and actors—to women; provided affordable theater space to many organizations and independent artists; and played an integral role in the revitalization of the Station North Arts & Entertainment District.

In August 2011, the Strand was honored as one of Baltimore magazine’s “Top 5 Baltimore Theaters,” along with CENTERSTAGE, Everyman, the Hippodrome, and Single Carrot. To learn more about the Strand Theater Company, visit www.strand-theater.org.
