The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA) nurtures and promotes a vibrant, diverse, and sustainable arts and cultural community, essential to the region’s quality of life. GBCA supports the needs of more than 400 members from the Baltimore region (Baltimore City and the five surrounding counties) including arts, culture, history, and heritage organizations, as well as individual artists. GBCA requires a strong infrastructure to steward its members and to develop new programs and initiatives.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Development and Membership Manager is responsible for expanding, cultivating and securing funding from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government to support GBCA’s $1.1 million operation. The position also manages and works together with the Membership Services Assistant to steward and recruit members and to design and implement programming that supports GBCA membership. The ideal candidate will be an effective administrator, taking initiative to manage systems and infrastructure for development appeals and proposals as well as membership programs and events and volunteer management. Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational ability and a desire to work in a fast-paced, creative environment in close contact with the Executive Director, staff, and leadership volunteers are required. Responsibilities include managing donor and membership solicitations; processing recognition and reports for fees and contributions; managing events and volunteers. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and donor management software is required (Salesforce a plus). The position reports to the Executive Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary focus of this position will be to expand and, steward current contributed income from individuals, foundations, corporations and the public sector. Additionally, the Manager will work closely with the Membership Services Assistant to develop strategies for member recruitment and retention. The Manager will have regular interactions with leaders and artists in the greater Baltimore cultural community. The position will provide natural opportunities to learn and grow and requires the ability to remain flexible and adaptable in regard to work assignments. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to the mission of the GBCA and the sector.

Responsibilities include:

-Developing and managing a fundraising strategy for a growing organization

-Managing, refining and strengthening GBCA systems including gift processing, the Salesforce database, gift reports, donor/membership information, and data integrity

-Managing grant requests, contributions, updates, and reports for all funders (this includes writing grant applications and reports and crafting fundraising appeals)

-Managing Membership Services Assistant to provide acknowledgments, membership and pledge reminders and preparing other donor/membership communications, requests for information and other correspondence

-Providing logistical support in planning and executing donor and membership events and programs including those associated with the Director’s Council, GBCA’s major donor group

-Managing member relationships including regular renewal, solicitation and thank you correspondence

-Working with staff to develop and implement events such as Brown Bags, Happy Hours, Roundtables, an Annual Meeting and other events including those associated with GBCA’s 15th Anniversary

-Providing staff leadership for the GBCA Board of Directors Membership and Development Committees

-Managing membership materials and donor recognition lists

-Handling other duties as assigned and necessary in a timely and professional manner

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

-Ability to thrive and work effectively as part of a small, collegial team in a fast-paced and organization.

-Ability to draft membership and fundraising appeals and other correspondence.

-Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher or other design software) and donor management software (Saleforce experience a plus).

-Commitment to inclusion and diversity cultural community including artistic and cultural organizations and artists.

-Impeccable ethicsStrong attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, anticipate needs, meet deadlines, problem-solve and multi-task.

-Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

-Ability to build rapport with members, donors, volunteers, and the public with diplomacy, discretion, and customer-service orientation.
