As It Should Be asked artists to imagine what tomorrow brings. If artists had the power to wake in the morning and have the perfect day, have all problems in the world be solved then what would the world look like? “The artist” is often written off as someone who doesn't understand how the world works and whose ideas have no basis of reality within the current system. What is misunderstood in these moments is that the artist can simultaneously hold the world as it is and the world as it should be. The cognitive dissonance between these two worlds is the space where the artist thrives.

PORTRAITS OF LIFE: Once Upon A Story

In this Ekphrastic exhibit, the paintings of Rimpo and Weiner-Reed will inspire written word, poetic, and musical compositions from viewers. The community is invited and encouraged to participate in-person in the special events scheduled throughout the exhibit for written word readings and musical presentations.

What better way to dance on the ashes of the old world run by billionaires and sweep them into the dustbin of history than to strengthen community knowledge! Join our new reading group and discuss how to build collective power in the time of coronavirus and beyond (we have so much material to work with!) We’ll be tackling readings and videos from thinkers across the globe and brainstorming practical application in this incredible moment in human history.

The Be Here: Baltimore storytelling program is a new way to discover the people and places of the city. To date, we have shared more than 1,500 stories: online, at the Peale Center, and in Baltimore’s communities. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra introduces BSO Sessions – a new digital concert series that follows the BSO’s journey in bringing inspirational works of orchestral repertoire to life as its musicians return to the stage. Programs will include beloved masterpieces; music by living composers and composers of color; and hidden treasures in orchestral repertoire, with episodes premiering October 14 at 8 pm and released weekly thereafter.

In fall 2019, UMBC's Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery presented Experimentalist: The Art of Robert W. Fichter, the first retrospective of the artist’s career in over thirty years. We are pleased now offer this exhibition in an online version, available here.
