DESCRIPTION:Albania, a small Muslim-majority country, proved a surprising
refuge for the Jewish community of central Europe during the Holocaust.
Thanks to Besa, an Albanian concept sometimes translated as “pledge of h
onor,” and an oath sworn by much of the population requiring individuals
to come to the aid of those in need, this country became a safe haven f
or Jews escaping Nazi persecution. Join us as we hear the story of one fa
mily’s experience from second generation survivors Eli and Benjy Neumann.
