DESCRIPTION:In this program of twentieth century music, District5 connects
the biographies of four composers whose lives were marked by the experie
nce of exile. Though unified in their expatriation, each composer’s circ
umstances and reactions varied dramatically. From Paul Hindemith’s volunt
ary departure from Nazi Germany to Isang Yun’s multiple imprisonments, t
his concert presents exile with all its contradictions and complications.
