DESCRIPTION:The Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble, known
  for their  'splendid playing, impeccable sound, and balance' (Gramophon
 e), will make  their much-anticipated debut at Chamber Music Maryland. Fo
 r their CMM  program, they will present contrasting string works written 
 by two composers  whose lives were profoundly shaped by the wars and terro
 r of the 20th  century, Dmitri Shostakovich and Erwin Schulhoff. The conc
 ert will also  feature Felix Mendelssohn's Octet for Strings, a masterpie
 ce composed at the  precocious age of 16.
