DESCRIPTION:Baltimore-born artist Sara VanDerBeek is known for capturing fl
eeting moments in time, framing fragments of urban architecture, reveal
ing abstract qualities of aging structures, and evoking an emotional res
ponse to the city’s changing neighborhoods. For her installation at the B
MA, VanDerBeek (American, born 1976) photographed young dancers from th
e Baltimore School for the Arts and juxtaposed those images with others i
nspired by the BMA's archives and collection, particularly related to th
e museum’s world-renowned Matisse holdings. These images will also become
  part of an artist's book.
