DESCRIPTION:'SLAVE SHIP' by Amiri Baraka and 'DIVERGENT' a tribute to Amiri
Baraka are both a study in distinct historical experiences in African-Am
erican history and present day experiences. The audience becomes witness
to slave travel during the Middle Passage from Africa to America, during
a plantation-era uprising, and in the era of the civil rights movement.
Baraka's playutilizes the representation of African-American history as
a means of forging a communal African-American identity through the prese
 rvation of African cultural roots.
