Walters Art Museum seeks Education Coordinator - School Programs

The Walters Art Museum seeks an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Education Coordinator of School Programs for the Department of Education and Public Programs. We seek an organized individual who will work with the 14-person Education team to provide support for the planning and implementation of programs for diverse audiences, with an emphasis on PK-12 students and educators. This individual will play a central role in the team-based work of the Education Department and in the larger Art and Programs Division. The Education Coordinator reports to the Manager of School Programs works closely with Gallery Learning, Family Programs, and Adult and Community Programs. Additionally, she/he will work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple museum departments and divisions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver classroom pre-visit lessons to at least ½ of partner schools in order to provide interactive and curriculum-based experiences to PK-12 students.
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver interactive and curriculum-based onsite gallery and studio experiences for PK-12 students and educators.
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to coordinate student art exhibitions in order to position the Walters as a partner in the advancement of arts learning throughout Baltimore City and the state of Maryland.
  • Collaborate with the Gallery Learning team to assist in the training and evaluation of docents in order to ensure a positive museum experience for PK-12 students and educators.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to plan and implement innovative programs and exhibitions that align with strategic initiatives and attract new and returning visitors.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, museum studies, art history, studio art, art education, or commensurate experience.
  • Knowledge of developmental stages PK-12 with an emphasis on early childhood development, arts-integration, local and national education standards, and application of learning theories to museum education.
  • Candidates should have the ability to work effectively with children and adults to deliver classroom and gallery programs.
  • Ideal candidates will be highly organized and excel in multi-tasking and prioritization.
  • Flexibility and patience and strong customer service skills are essential for this position.
  • High levels of creativity and problem solving are preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a highly creative team.
  • Must provide own transportation as local and regional travel along with some evening and weekend hours required.
