Chesapeake Shakespeare Seeks Marketing and Development Assistant

The Marketing and Development Assistant will spend roughly equal amounts of time supporting the marketing and fundraising/development departments of a thriving professional nonprofit theatre for the classics.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

Marketing

  • Provide administrative support for the theatre’s performance, education, and development outreach efforts
  • Support and track digital and print campaigns, appeals, and mailings
  • Gather, proof, and format information for CSC marketing materials
  • Coordinate and keep track of marketing campaign calendars and project timelines
  • Support social media, web, and email communications
  • Maintain, update, and organize archive of the company’s creative content
  • Submit and update online event listings and maintain publicity contact lists; create database reports for mailing lists

Development

  • Maintain donor database; ensuring accuracy and currency of all information
  • Create and update donor and donation reports as needed (regular and ad hoc)
  • Maintain donor and sponsor lists for programs, website, etc.; assist with preparation of guest lists for events and donor seat lists for performances
  • Support content creation for donor communications, including letters, emails, campaign materials, donor rewards, etc.
  • Assist with mailings for annual appeals and events, including mass mailings, emails blast, and thank-you letters.
  • Provide support to committees and volunteers during fundraising campaigns and events
  • Support grant writing and reporting; organize frequently required grant materials
  • Support donor prospecting, including individual and institutional donor research
  • Assist with stewardship activities including opening night parties and special events

Qualifications

Required

  • Excellent knowledge and ability in grammar, spelling, and persuasive writing
  • Professional demeanor whether speaking to others in person, over the phone, via email, or through letters
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills in a deadline-oriented setting
  • Ability to work well independently, under direct supervision, and as part of a collaborative team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office business applications, preferably in an enterprise setting
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and report creation, preferably on Salesforce-based CRM platform
  • Ability to handle online research of organizations and individuals
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends to support performance-related and other events

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of photo/video editing software or ability to learn
  • An appreciation for the works of Shakespeare
  • Experience in theatre

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Two years office experience or equivalent

Please note:

  • This is an office-based position, but remote work one day per week may be a possibility.
  • Alternatively, we will consider applications for separate part-time Development Assistant and Marketing Assistant positions. (Health insurance is not available for part-time positions.)

$30,000 - $40,000
