Marketing and Communications Manager

The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance seeks a Marketing and Communications Manager. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the mission, services, and constituents of GBCA and the role the arts play in building healthy, vibrant, and successful communities.

Overview

Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance is a leading nonprofit provider of services to artists and cultural organizations in the region. Whether they are emerging or established, mainstream or underground, grassroots or institutional, GBCA believes in unifying and strengthening all members of the creative community. We do this through marketing, education, financial support, and developing innovative programs that increase equity in the cultural community and beyond.

GBCA supports the needs of more than 150 members from the Baltimore region (Baltimore City and the five surrounding counties) including arts, culture, history, and heritage organizations, as well as individual artists. GBCA requires a strong infrastructure to steward its members and to develop new programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

GBCA’s Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with all GBCA staff to implement and refine the communications strategy to raise public awareness of the organization’s mission, and to promote and increase participation in GBCA programs, events, and services. She/he/they will be the a key in the implementation of GBCA’s 2020-25 Strategic Plan and leader in the implementation communications strategy. This includes addressing both institutional and programmatic marketing.

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the effective promotion and communication of GBCA’s core mission and programming. This includes engaging relevant stakeholders in an organizational vision and developing strategies for the successful implementation of all related activities, including messaging, marketing, advertising, website, social media, collateral materials, and media relations to meet and exceed institutional engagement and development goals.

Primary Duties:

  • Lead the implementation of a communications strategy that creates strong loyalty and recognition.
  • Partner with the Development and Membership Director to strengthen relationships with key constituents and the general public resulting in increased contributed and earned income.
  • Develop and implement web and e-marketing partnerships and social media strategy.
  • Provide creative direction for all marketing collateral and advertising campaigns, including direct mail campaigns.
  • Manage and develop new partnerships for advertising, sponsorship, and calendar content sales.
  • Manage and increase engagement with of GBCA’s core online services, the Culture Fly calendar, Culture Flyer, and JobsPlus.
  • Develop, and deliver/overdeliver on stretching revenue and usage goals.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic public representative of GBCA.
  • Develop and manage the Marketing and Communications budget.

Characteristics of the next Marketing and Communications Manager must demonstrate:

  • Cultural Competency: A sophisticated understanding of Anti-Racism principles and practices, and the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Project Management: The ability to conceive of both the strategy and operational aspects of a project or program, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Resource Management: The ability to optimize human and financial resources in keeping with core values, and to monitor and forecast program income and expenses with well-reasoned accuracy
  • Communication: The ability to communicate transparently and effectively across mediums with an emphasis on interpersonal communication and public speaking
  • Relationship Management: Excellent social skills with an emphasis on building and maintaining meaningful and reciprocal external relationships

Education: B.A. or compatible arts-based employment experience

Experience: Minimum of six-to-ten years of relevant marketing and communications experience.
