Port Discovery Children's Museum seeks a Box Office Manager

Port Discovery Children’s Museum, one of the top Children’s Museum in the United States and a top cultural institution in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, is seeking a customer service-oriented individual with excellent attention to detail to join our team as our Box Office Manager. The Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.

Summary of the Job:

The Box Office Manager reports to our Sales Director, oversees the Box Office team daily and is responsible for membership administration.

This is a full time 40-hour per week position. The typical schedule will be Monday to Friday. However, since much of our attendance occurs on the weekends, at least one weekend per month will be required. Some additional weekends and evenings may be required, based on the needs of the museum and the Box Office department.

The salary range for this position is $43k to $48k, based on experience.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for opening and closing the Box Office on assigned days, including, but not limited to, cashing in and out registers, observing staff throughout the day for proper customer service and timely execution of tickets and running and processing all end of day reports, making and balancing bank deposits.
  • Applies refunds to membership upgrades and any other refunds as needed.
  • Monitors ticketing/attendance throughout the day, making necessary adjustments.
  • Enters and tracks coupon usage in ATMS (the museum’s ticketing database).
  • Knowledgeable about special events and applicable restrictions.
  • Handles customer concerns and comments.
  • Takes the lead in hiring, training, and counseling all Box Office staff.
  • Delegates tasks to the Box Office staff for efficiency.
  • Responsible for the scheduling and payroll of Box Office Experts.
  • Assist the Director of Sales in the onboarding, training, and performance management of Box Office staff.
  • Assists with birthday party check-in on weekends.
  • Manages inventory of Box Office and Membership supplies.
  • Maintains the flow of telephone sales calls/emails for both the ticketing and membership portion of the Sales department, responding in a timely manner.
  • Sends member communications, such as member cards, within the designated timeframe.
  • Maintains the member database with routine cleaning.
  • Represents Box Office at museum interdepartmental meetings.
  • Generate and submit daily Box Office reports to Sales Director and Finance.
  • Meets regularly with Sales Management to review goals and tasks.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Sales.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational & multi-tasking skills are required.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory/management experience required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in sales, administration or box office required.
  • Customer service experience required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequent sitting and sedentary office work, for administrative, phone, and membership duties.
  • Frequent standing & walking when working at the Box Office.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable working around large crowds.
  • The noise level is typically moderate, but can be loud in the lobby at certain times of the day.
  • Evening, weekend and some holiday work will be required.
