BMA seeks Project Archivist - Temporary, Part Time

The Baltimore Museum of Art is seeking an experienced Project Archivist for the successful execution of an archives processing project. This is a grant-funded, 7-week, part-time, temporary position in the Library and Archives Department of The Baltimore Museum of Art.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Following national standards and best practices for archival description, process and arrange institutional records, recommend and implement appropriate preservation procedures, work with Archivists’ Toolkit, and prepare MARC records.
  • Train and supervise volunteers and interns.
  • Promote the progress and results of the project via social media, professional conference presentations, and/or articles in professional journals or newsletters.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development courses and training.

This part-time, temporary, exempt position reports to the Head Librarian & Archivist in the Education Division.

Job Submission Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS • Masters of Library Science • Demonstrated experience with standard archival principles and practices • Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivist preferred • Experience with Archivists’ Toolkit • Familiarity with basic preservation standards for photographic and paper-based archival collections • Knowledge of art history preferred • Strong attention to detail and ability to plan, prioritize work and meet deadlines • General fitness for lifting archive boxes up to 30 pounds and moving loaded carts APPLY Please send a cover letter and resume via e-mail to [email protected] with “Temporary Project Archivist” and your first and last name in the subject line.
