Executive Director's Letter - 11/28/23

In a response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the philanthropic community created a reminder to focus on the true spirit of the season–thankfulness and gratitude. GivingTuesday was born and incubated at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City. It is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

With this spirit of gratitude, we are so thankful for GBCA’s donors, who make it possible for us to elevate and strengthen the region’s cultural community through innovative programming and meaningful partnerships. Thanks to our incredible family of supporters, this year, GBCA promoted thousands of events on our Culture Fly events calendar; awarded $90,000 in funding to artists, and deepened our work providing equity and inclusion resources to the sector and through Urban Arts Leadership (UAL). We also celebrated milestone anniversaries: 10 years for UAL and 15 years for the Baker Artist Portfolios and associated awards.

This GivingTuesday, we hope you consider supporting arts and culture in Baltimore by making a gift to GBCA. You can make a secure, online donation at baltimoreculture.org/donate.

In addition to supporting GBCA, I encourage you to also consider making a gift to one or more of our amazing members. From the smallest, most grassroots to the largest institutions, your support will help ensure that arts and culture thrive in our region. In a time of challenges and amazing opportunities, the arts and humanities inspire, educate, and help all of us better understand ourselves and build stronger communities locally and around the world.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Jeannie

P.S. This year, for contributions of $500 or more, there is a special tax incentive donors can take advantage of through the Maryland Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program. Click here for more information, and contact GBCA’s Director of Development and Membership Lauren Saunders at [email protected], to learn how you can apply for tax credits with your gift.
