Minas Brazilian Jazz

Minas Brings Top-Quality Brazilian Jazz to Germano’s Friday July 11
Based in Philadelphia for the majority of their career, internationally acclaimed Minas has been on the forefront of Brazilian-American Jazz for over 3 decades. Built around the singer/songwriting duo comprised of Brazilian born Orlando Haddad, who also sings and plays nylon string guitar, and Patricia King, piano and vocals, Minas’ longevity speaks for itself. From the duo to ensemble, to orchestra and big band, Minas has been in high demand. Indicated for 3 Grammy awards in 2010 for their CD Bossa Nova Day, Minas has performed at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Lincoln Center in New York, Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, as well as internationally in Brazil, Scotland and Italy. From small intimate settings to large venues, Orlando and Patricia have enchanted audiences with their magical and unique sound, artistry and warmth, where the poetry of their lives is heard in every note.
Appearing as a duo at Germano’s Cabaret on Friday July 11, Minas reflects a perfect musical marriage - yes, they are married to each other - with a stage presence and chemistry that only a lifetime can produce. Minas will be performing a repertoire comprised of originals from their 5 CD collection as well as standard Bossa Nova favorites. Minas takes Brazilian and American roots to create a sound that is fresh and innovative, incorporating ballads tinged with melancholic traits of Blues and Choro, to Folk coasting on the subtle coolness of a Bossa Nova pulse, to upbeat Sambas elaborated with instrumental jazz improvisation, scat singing and whimsical whistling. Both Orlando and Patricia are prolific writers. Patricia just premiered her original musical La Giara and Orlando, who’s been trained as a classical composer, is preparing to present a concert of his 20th Century-style compositions in the fall. Celebrating their 30th anniversary since arriving in Philadelphia from Rio de Janeiro, Minas is releasing a brand new album, Symphony in Bossa, in the spring of 2015, recorded with an entire big band, string orchestra and guest artists.
With recordings of original music and a collection of over 100 songs, Orlando and Patricia’s compositions have been compared to classics by Cole Porter and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Capturing the essence of great songwriting with memorable melodies, inventive harmonies, and poetic lyrics, the music of Minas is engaging and timeless.
