Ascending, multi-award winning Baltimore painter Tim Kelly will have a solo show of more than 40 paintings at The Columbia Art Center, 6100 Foreland Garth, Columbia, Maryland 21045, November 9th- December 11th, 2016. Reception with the artist Sunday Nov 20th 1:00-4:30pm. The show is presented and curated by Still Life Gallery Fine Art, whose Ellicott City location on Main Street is currently closed to due the devastating flood of July 30 which destroyed many businesses in the Ellicott City Historic District.
“We had been planning this show since spring, and decided to not let the flood stop us from presenting the remarkable plein air and other representational work of Mr. Kelly to the public, “ said Still Life Gallery owner Sara Arditti. ”Thanks to the wonderful folks at the Columbia Art Center, we have an alternative location for his show, which features everything from nighttime boats in the harbor to burlesque performers to city scenes and landscapes.”
Kelly captured three top awards at Plein Air Easton 2016, the largest and most prestigious plein air painting competition in the United States. In the past 5 years he has won an astounding 25 top awards at regional plein air painting competitions.
Most recently, in September 2016 Tim was invited to enter two of his paintings into the American Masters Show at the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City, alongside some of America’s most recognized artists.
A lifelong Baltimore area resident, Kelly is an “Artist’s Artist”, a versatile Master painter whose greatest talent lies in turning the mundane into the sublime. Even harsh aspects of the city are rendered a bit more beautiful, a bit more romantic; whether a street-lit back alley, a boat docked in the night, or the inside of a bar. Tim’s careful, sensitive translation of ”real world” into “painter’s world” reveals a detailed, parallel universe of beauty that is usually hidden in plain sight.
