Join us for Annex Theater's first Knee Play of the season, SIMAETHA.

SIMAETHA is a Dreambaby cabaret written and performed by their alter-ego Jacob Budenz. SIMAETHA explores the cultural role of the witch as a way of re-mythologizing the self. The performance becomes part ritual, part cabaret arising from memories real and conjured – childhood escapades with a family ghost, conversations with luckless tiny-town maidens, summonings of the demon of lust – that Budenz weaves together with poems, stories, spells, found songs with original arrangements, and borrowed rituals.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jacob Budenz is a queer writer, multi-disciplinary performer, and witch bitch currently pursuing an MFA at The University of New Orleans. A resident actor for the Annex Theater, Budenz has been featured in such acclaimed Annex productions as Equus, The Lord of Flies, and Macbeth, in addition to writing and directing The Master and Margarita and co-writing The Lord of Flies. As Dreambaby, Budenz has performed all over Baltimore in venues like Creative Alliance, The Holy Underground, Windup Space, EMP Collective, and more, as well as national and international venues like The Black Cat (DC), The Manhattan Inn (NYC), and La Xata La Rifa (Spain). Budenz's writing has also been featured, commissioned, or awarded by Assaracus, Hinchas de Poesia, The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Writer's Digest, Glitterwolf, and more.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Since 2013, Annex Theater has commissioned a yearly series of solo-driven performance pieces showcasing Annex Theater company artists and favorite regular collaborators. The Knee Play series champions works of personal artistic exploration and high-risk experimentation in a supportive environment.
