The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum’s free Aviation Speaker Series night, being held Monday, July 10 at 7pm in the Lockheed Martin auditorium at 2323 Eastern Blvd in Middle River, MD presents Jerome Beser, Founder of The Beser Foundation for Archival Research and Preservation. A retired Department of Defense contractor, military historian and author, Mr. Beser initiated this foundation as a tribute to his father, radar operator Lt. Jacob Beser, the only serviceman to have served on both atomic strike Enola Gay and Bockscar crews. After World War II, Lt Beser collected an extensive archive of documents and media coverage to ensure the accurate details and lessons learned from the use of atomic weapons would be preserved. An unpublished speech written by Jacob Beser was recently found and his son will be presenting it for this speaker night audience. Sharing his father’s experiences and the lessons the world changing wartime missions had provided has been an expanding endeavor for Beser as he finished his father’s manuscript, The Rising Sun Sets: the Complete Story of the Bombing of Nagasaki following his father’s passing.
