Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves

Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves

Next Thursday marks one of CityLit's final fall programs. We invite you to join us on Thursday, November 15th at the Motor House from 7- 9:00 pm (120 W. North Avenue in Baltimore) for a convening and celebration of the newly released anthology Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves.

The evening will highlight Glory's work in gathering readers to read and share stories, but it will also engage the audience in sharing their narratives of discovering themselves on the page. The presenters, Jess Solomon, Elissa Blount Moorhead, and Andria Nacina Cole will share their Top Ten Favorite Books by Black Authors. The joys of music will be provided by QuuenEarth and Christen B.

Men are most definitely invited, along with anyone who can add to the narrative about seeing themselves reflected in print for the first time in the stories they read. This invitation is extended to anyone who has ever felt less than represented in literature and includes the transgender, gender nonconforming, LGBTQ, Native American, Asian and Latinix communities. Feel free to tag someone and invite them into this circle.

CityLit Project has an Open Call to ALL Attendees
Write a 500-word narrative about your own experience finding a representation of yourself in literature, how it resonated in your life, how and if it affected your literary journey as a writer. Some of the participants will be encouraged to share these narratives at the event. All will be asked to submit for possible inclusion in a forthcoming chapbook by CityLit Press.

Come for the literary connections of readers and writers. Stay for the experience.
