Columbia Orchestra conductor Jason Love's recital mixes ancient stories and contemporary ideas. Masterpieces by Brahms and Debussy mine the 19th century while pointing towards the 20th. The music of Guillaume Connesson explores an ancient mythical city on hand and modern popular dance music on the other. Our “blood” theme erupts in Mark Weiser’s work, an ancient power struggle for control of the Roman Empire in a work for electric guitar and voice. Rachel Franklin, piano, Kyle Engler, voice, and Kyle Coughlin, clarinet, will join Jason Love in concert.
