Edgar Allan Poe's 210th Birthday Celebration

Edgar Allan Poe's 210th Birthday Celebration

The Maryland Center for the Arts, in cooperation with the Westminster Preservation Trust, presents Edgar Allan Poe's 210th Birthday Celebration at Westminster Hall in Baltimore, on January 19, 2019, at 3:00pm and 5:30pm. Admission is $10 in advance, with ticket proceeds supporting the nonprofit mission of the Maryland Center for the Arts to build and operate a center to provide the region with enhanced access to quality spaces to present, exhibit, and participate in the arts. Tickets can be purchased online. Seating is limited and early ticket purchase is strongly recommended, as tickets may not be available at the door and will be priced at $15.

Edgar Allan Poe's 210th Birthday Celebration includes The Poe Project's premiere of Dark Descent: Within the House of Usher, a new, dramatic interpretation with narration, dance, and music, of the classic Edgar Allan Poe tale of horror, The Fall of the House of Usher, brought to life by violist Peter Minkler, actor Tim Marrone, and dancer Kathryn Elizabeth Kelly. This premiere is made possible by a grant from the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund, creator of the Baker Artist Portfolios, www.BakerArtist.org. The event will also include a special theatrical performance of Poe's The Tell Tale Heart, by actor Tony Tsendeas.

Enjoy an apple cider toast to commemorate Poe's Birthday with a special gathering around Edgar Allan Poe's burial site following the event. The event's emcee will be Jeff Jerome, Curator Emeritus of the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum. Please note that Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher and The Tell-Tale Heart contain dark subject matter that may be too intense for children under the age of 8. Parental discretion is advised.
