Cold Spring Jazz Quartet Presents "Jazzin' the Blues"

Cold Spring Jazz Quartet Presents "Jazzin' the Blues"

Everyone knows that jazz grew out of the blues, but not everyone knows that the blues never really left; the music just evolved beyond three chords and a moan. This special performance by Cold Spring Jazz Quartet shows how this evolution happened. Come along with CSJQ as they trace the blues from its roots in the early twentieth century, through its altered forms in bebop, hard bop, modal and Latin jazz, all the way to its presence in multiple styles today. The show features music by Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Henry Mancini and others, along with CSJQ’s own terrific original compositions. As always, the band mixes instrumentals with vocals and spices up the songs with bandleader Mark Osteen’s stories and historical tidbits. This show won’t give you the blues—it will blow your blues away!
