BE STILL!: A WOCA COMMUNITY GATHERING

"...I am also aware that nothingness is also a positive void, a valid way (道) which can be actively experienced, practiced, and consciously contemplated on." - Aska Sakura
We've rested. We've taken a breath. And it just never seems like enough. As the creatives and the caregivers, the problem solvers and the visionary leaders, we're constantly asked for more, especially as systems collapse around us. The age of COVID-19 has just amplified the "more." But instead of clinging to the false reality that producing more will save the economy (and us), one of the most productive things we can do right now is be still.
In the spirit of our WOCA Community Gatherings, and our series, Thriving!: Community and Self Care for Womxn of Color, WOCA is creating a virtual space where womxn of color can be still, be supported, and share stories of how stillness can be a crucial force in sustaining us through these trying times. These gatherings are about leaning into community as we collectively work to cope with the debilitating physical, mental, and emotional fatigue we regularly experience as womxn of color, now overwhelmingly compounded by an upended world. In these gatherings, we hope to source some sustainable practices for our well-being, as well as, strategies for resilience.
Framing our discussion will be the question: What are we missing by not being still?
Discussion on active stillness led by WOCA member Jo Anna Norris.
