Rich Hill offers an intimate account of American poverty through the eyes of three teenagers from Rich Hill, Missouri. Once a coal mining town, present day Rich Hill is a place plagued by unemployment, where no matter how hard you work, the American Dream seems impossible. Directors (and cousins) Tracy Droz Tragos and Andrew Droz Palermo follow Appachey, Harley, and Andrew closely for a year, letting the boys explain their struggles and hopes in their own words. Without narration or statistics, the film takes an unsentimental look at these boys’ daily lives and in doing so gives a human face to this often over-politicized reality. 7:30pm, $12, $9 mbrs.
