Through A Lens Darkly

Director: Thomas Allen Harris, USA, 2014, 92 mins
In Through a Lens Darkly, (inspired by Deborah Willis’s book Reflections in Black), we get a look beyond racist stereotypes and into the African-American family photo album. Director Thomas Allen Harris explores how black photographers willfully create their identity through their own images in contrast to harmful images created by white photographers who demean African-American culture. The film offers us a crash course in African-American photography – from the first black man to open a daguerreotype studio to the visionaries who shape the field today. 7:30PM, $12, $9 mbrs.
The Creative Alliance is proud to host the first and only scheduled screening of the film in the mid-Atlantic.
