Emanuel Leutze: Myth and Memory

Emanuel Leutze: Myth and Memory

What prompts a German-born artist to create a massive painting illustrating a major turning point in the American War of Independence 75 years after the event without a commission? Learn how Leutze romanticized the past by examining the artistic choices he made in painting Washington Crossing the Delaware and his other work owned by the Maryland Center for History and Culture, Settlement of Maryland by Lord Baltimore.
