UMBC’s Department of Theatre presents a Theatre Mini-Fest, featuring faculty master classes by Eric Abele, Chelsea Pace, Adam Mendelson, Susan McCully, and Lynn Watson, March 4 through 6.

Are you fascinated by digital rendering but unsure how to get started? In this workshop, Eric Abele will share research, tips, and activities to push designers away from their No. 2 pencils and onto their iPads to create dynamic and professional sketches.

Eric Abele, associate chair and lecturer in costume design, is a theatrical designer and construction artist who specializes in costume and puppet design for Theatre for Young Audiences. Professionally he has designed costumes for Baltimore/DC area theatres including Everyman Theatre, REP Stage, Imagination Stage, Adventure Theatre, and Interrobang Theatre Company. In addition to his design work, Abele is an experienced costume crafts artisan who has created puppets and/or specialty hats for a variety of theatres across the country, including the Off-Broadway production of In Transit and the national tour of Motherhood: the Musical. At UMBC, he teaches costume design and advanced costume design and a wide range of courses within the department including introduction to theatre, senior capstone, and fashion, culture and society. His current research interests include digital costume rendering techniques, incorporating more realistic applications of pattern, bodies, and texture within a sketch. Additionally, Abele is also a Yoga Alliance 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and is interested in developing yogic techniques within pedagogy, as well as teaching yoga classes around the Baltimore area. He is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. He received a B.A. Dramatic Arts, Centre College, and an M.F.A. Costume Design, University of Tennessee.
