St. Mary’s Fort with Archaeologist Travis Parno PhD

In this virtual program, dig deeper into the current archaeological excavations at the site of St. Mary’s Fort, the palisaded fort built by the first wave of English colonists to Maryland in spring 1634.
Travis Parno PhD, Director of Research and Collections at Historic St. Mary’s City and Project Director of the People to People project, will share how the site of St. Mary’s Fort offers the opportunity to study the earliest interactions between English colonists and the Indigenous peoples of the region during a period of little historical documentation. With help from tools such as geophysical surveys, the current archaeological work is revealing much larger colonial secrets.
This virtual program is free and open to all audiences. Registration is required. After registering, an automated confirmation email will provide connection instructions.
