I*D: What's Unseen & What's Felt

“An ‘invisible’, ‘non-visible’, ‘hidden’, ‘non-apparent’, or ‘unseen’ disability is any physical, mental, or emotional impairment that goes largely unnoticed. An invisible disability can include, but is not limited to: cognitive impairment and brain injury; the autism spectrum; chronic illnesses like multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and fibromyalgia; d/Deaf and/or hard of hearing; blindness and/or low vision; anxiety, depression, PTSD, and many more. We understand the body as always changing, so disability and chronic illness may be unstable or periodic throughout one’s life.” – Invisible Disability Project

For our first true open call, Make Studio invited artists who identify as invisibly disabled, and/or allies who wished to reflect ton the theme, to submit work for this exhibition aimed at honoring and bringing awareness to experiences of invisible disability. The result is a dynamic and multi-faceted group exhibition including 2-D, 3-D, and performance based works, created by 15 artists in different phases of their arts practices, and featuring narratives by a selection of the artists, which delve deeper into their experiences.

Join us at the artists’ reception for remarks, refreshments, and to meet many of the artists!
