"COUP DE BOP" - TRIBUTE TO THE LESSER KNOWN YET SATISFYING JAZZ OF OUR TIME

"COUP DE BOP" - TRIBUTE TO THE LESSER KNOWN YET SATISFYING JAZZ OF OUR TIME

“Coup De Bop” is an apt name for this particular group of jazz talent. “Coup” as in the overthrow of the “Bop” too often played by musicians in most clubs and/or restaurant settings. To be sure…this group can “play” and “bop” and “blow the house down” with the “Great American Songbook”. These musicians grew up playing these styles and melodies. However, to coin an analogy, “American cheese? Why only this when there exists: Gruyere, Asiago, Camembert, Swiss?”

Coup De Bop is ear food ripened, impressionistic, deliciously played and cause for: Hep Cats boppin’ and Crazily Clad rockin’ and rolling their eyes to the back of their imaginations…Subterranean-like, finger snapping musings with which to sonically dream (or digest.) “Beatnik” attire optional.

The players in this group have been around their respective blocks and are a veritable “who’s who” in the Balto/DC area:

Andy DagilisSax: Coup De Bop, North Texas State University lab bands, BJA Big Band, The Majestics, Jazz Street Station, D.I.G. and various jazz combos in Texas and Maryland.

Eric Heavner Trumpet: Peabody Conservatory, The Upsetters, Jazz Caravan, Charm City Klezmer, Totally Confused, BJA Big Band, The Majestics, Escapade and wide ranging styles of recordings and performance in the region.

Tom HenslerBass: A top area bassist that can be seen and heard supporting a wide array of musicians and singers in a variety of styles including The Sounds Good Jazz Quartet, The Smooth Groove, Rhonda Robinson, The 6 x 4 Jazz Duo and others.

Anthony Villa Piano: Professor of Music Loyola University, Director BJA Big Band, Composer – Ardito Music (ASCAP) arditomusic.com, Anthony Villa Trio, Cold Spring Jazz Quartet and various recording projects and jazz combo play throughout the area.

Tim GhizDrums: A “first call” drummer in town, Tim is a seasoned veteran whose playing experience reaches between: Trio and Octet, Blues and Jazz, Swing and Latin, and from commercial to the eclectic. He joins the group again this night, with signature time and invention.
