Hotel Paradise Orchestra Roaring 20s Jazz

The Hotel Paradise Orchestra Roaring 20s Jazz

On Wednesday, May 1st from 7:30pm to 9:00pm the Hotel Paradise Orchestra will honor International Jazz Day and the Fifth Anniversary of the iconic Keystone Korner Baltimore!

The evening will showcase authentic sweet’n’hot 1920s and early 1930s jazz via tunes written by Duke Ellington, Baltimore’s own Eubie Blake, Fats Waller, Gershwins, Jelly Roll Morton, Cab Calloway played in the style in which they were first performed.

The Hotel Paradise Orchestra is under the direction of Jari Villanueva and features jazz musicians playing traditional instruments as well as violins, banjo, and tuba, with Janet Paulsen on vocals.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the playing of the 100th anniversary of the jazz composition “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin, which is not the symphonic version and will be played the way it was heard in 1924. Music Director and Conductor Jari Villaneuva of the Hotel Paradise Orchestra says, “It is rare to have a major work like this performed in the original format and I am honored to work with these talented musicians who can play this piece.” Another 100th year anniversary song will be sung by lead vocalist Janet Paulsen, “It Had to Be You” by Isham Jones.

The whole orchestra is passionate about keeping the music from this era alive for future generations to appreciate and to learn from. To perform at the iconic Keystone Korner in conjunction with International Jazz Day is very special. It is important to support live music and live music venues!

So come have a roaring good time!
