Chamber Orchestra: Musical Aviary

Chamber Orchestra: Musical Aviary

Take flight with a program that celebrates music’s winged inspirations. This concert brings the natural world to life through sound. This imaginative program, which demonstrates that many composers have found inspiration in the skies, is a perfect way to spend an evening.

The program begins with Respighi’s The Birds whose flutter and call, of a variety of birds transforms these Baroque melodies into a playful aviary. Weber’s Bassoon Concerto follows, showcasing the beautiful warm voice of this instrument in a piece full of character and sparkle. The concert closes with Haydn’s Symphony No. 83, nicknamed “The Hen” for its clucking rhythms and lively humor.

We’re very excited that Nathan Shepherd will be joining us for this concert. A Greene Fellow at The Juilliard School, he studies bassoon with Judith LeClair. Nathan has performed across the United States with the Music Academy of the West, the National Orchestral Institute, and Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra. He’s also been featured on NPR’s From the Top, and is a prizewinner in the national YoungArts Competition, The President’s Own Marine Band Concerto Competition, and the Louisville Orchestra Concerto Competition.
