Threads In Common: A Multidisciplinary Fiber Art Show

Threads In Common: A Multidisciplinary Fiber Art Show

Threads In Common: A Multidisciplinary Fiber Art Show is OPENING THIS FRIDAY!

Threads In Common gathers five artists whose works speak in the textures of memory. Working across various materials such as fabric, faux fur, paint, and photographs, their practices intertwine the personal and the communal. These are stories of remembrance, transformation, and care stitched into being.

Kehinde Applewhite builds autobiographical landscapes from secondhand cloth, letting loved ones’ fibers breathe with new life and ancestral warmth. Each piece reads like a living page, mapping Applewhite’s universe through pattern, color, and touch. Paula Phillips embeds her work with reverence, her hand-stitching charging the work. Her tributes glow with gratitude, grace, and the fire of devotion. Her works remind us that tenderness, when practiced, can be both prayer and protest. Linnea Poole’s photography documents delicately fused materials, including silk and indigo-dyed fibers, to explore Black womanhood’s cycles of loss and resurgence. Their approach turns mourning into acts of resilience and beauty. Kolpeace brings the language of paint into the circle. This work was created during the height of the pandemic and explores the mental and emotional state of humanity. His portraits hum with music and motion, calling the community into roles of celebration and witness. Vetiver engages with visibility as both burden and liberation. Through color, material, and photos, they reflect on the politics of being seen, offering a meditation on the resilience of Black queer and trans life.
