CLA Film Festival | Mapping The Sacred: Pilgrimage and the Geography Of Devotion

Join CLA and the religious studies department to explore the concept of pilgrimage as a religious expression. Introductions and discussions of the films will be led by religious studies faculty.
Wed., Apr. 8 – “The Way” (2010, Rated PG) – Shimon Shokek will discuss how a father decides to take the pilgrimage his estranged son never got to make.
Wed., Apr. 15 – “Wheel of Time” (2003, NR) – Carl Yamamoto will discuss the largest Buddhist ritual in Bodh Gaya, India.
Wed., Apr. 22 – “Haro Hara” (2007, NR) – Rose Ann Christian discusses a documentary about pilgrims who pass through military checkpoints and pastoral villages on the way to the sacred enclave of Kataragama, Sri Lanka.
Wed., Apr. 29 – “Le Grand Voyage” (2004, NR) – Bob Tappan will discuss the journey of a young French man who agrees to accompany his elderly father on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
