The Cradle Theatre Company’s sixth season in Baltimore kicks off with a showcase of its upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Cradle Company’s focus on classical dramas directed and acted entirely by high school and college aged students brings a new vitality to many familiar works. This production of Shakespeare’s masterful tragedy about colliding loyalties and unforeseen consequences brings the action of the play to America at the dawn of the 20th century, when war and commerce had suddenly turned a struggling backwater into a world power. In doing so, it reminds the audience that its questions about the proper duties of a patriotic citizen in times of great change are as timeless and relevant today as they were hundreds of years ago.
