The Columbia Pro Cantare chorus opens it 39th season with “Northern Lights,” a concert featuring the music of composers from Scandinavia and neighboring countries celebrating anniversaries this year. The program includes “Finlandia” and “Juhlamarssi” by Jean Sibelius, and works by Carl Nielsen, Dietrich Buxtehude, and Alexander Glazunov. Joining the chorus under the direction of Frances Motyca Dawson will be Rachel Blaustein, soprano, chamber orchestra, Alison Gatwood, piano, and Ronald Mutchnik, violin. A pre-concert lecture begins at 7 pm and there is a free post-concert reception.
