A show for mature audiences of all ages and breaks new ground as Redwing Blackbird Theater's hand puppeter, Amy Trompetter, collaborates with East Harlem rap poet, (not4)Prophet. The innocence of the puppet is well paired with the justified rage that gives birth to ghetto rap. This clown-priest juxtaposition echoes the sacred and comic roots in southeast Asian puppetry. (not4)Prophetsings and howls poetry and weaves history into the puppetry dialogue. The story moves from Biblical creation to expulsion, to the new world conquest, through Harlem ghetto parables to an Apocalypse ushering in a utopian society. The stage is a vertical hand puppet box featuring painted backdrops reminiscent of Eeuroopean Cantastoria balladeers' picture stories.
