THE PHILADELPHIA COUNTRY HOUSE: ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPE IN COLONIAL AMERICA

THE PHILADELPHIA COUNTRY HOUSE: ARCHITECTURE AND LANDSCAPE IN COLONIAL AMERICA

By the mid-eighteenth century, Americans had developed their own version of the bourgeois English countryseat. Mark Reinberger, professor of architecture at the University of Georgia, and Elizabeth McLean, research associate in botany at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, will discuss their new book from the Johns Hopkins University Press, exploring the myriad ways in which Philadelphia's estates straddled the cultural divide between urban and rural. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

This is the final talk in Homewood Museum's architecture lecture series, Rural Retreats: The Country House and its Landscape, presented as part of Baltimore Architecture Month. 1 LU (AIA) will be available.

5pm reception at Homewood Museum, Johns Hopkins University (34th and Charles Sts., Baltimore, MD 21218)
6pm lecture nearby in Gilman Hall, Room 50

Free parking in the Johns Hopkins Club lot, accessible from JHU's West Gate at 3500 San Martin Drive, Baltimore, MD 21218.
