McDaniel hosts a lecture by renowned educator, philosopher, author and activist Cornel West, who is best known for his works “Race Matters” and “Democracy Matters,” his memoir “Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud,” and his most recent book, “Black Prophetic Fire,” which offers anunflinching look at 19th and 20th century African-American leaders and their visionary legacies. West, who currently teaches African and African-American Studies at Harvard University, is frequently interviewed by major news outlets, including CNN and PBS.
¡Las Sandinistas! uncovers the untold stories of women who shattered barriers to lead combat and social reform during Nicaragua’s 1979 Sandinista Revolution, and the ensuing US-backed Contra War, as these same women continue as leaders in the struggle against their current government's suppression of democracy and women's rights.

Jazz pianist Cesar Orozcohas created a set of music for strings and big band using rhythms and forms from Cuba and Venezuela. Award-winning dance artist Stephanie Martinez’s work Destino Roto (Broken Destiny) will focus on women’s strengths as she draws from her Mexican and Spanish heritage. Born in Hungary (1969) and a graduate of the Budapest Liszt Academy of Music, Gergely Ittzés is one of the most proactive personalities of the flute scene. While being a researcher of his instrument and composer of many experimental flute works applying the most up-to-date flute techniques, especially polyphonic playing, he does not specialize in contemporary music only but tries to connect it with tradition. His large repertoire includes all the important works written for his instrument and a great number of rarities from the past centuries and today.

The opening of KIDOOO will take place in tandem with MAP's annual Out of Order show on April 5, 2019.
Linda Day Clark began photographing the Gee’s Bend community in 2002 as a freelance photographer for The New York Times. She continues to return to Gee’s Bend as a documentary photographer, capturing the life of this rural community and the African American quilters. Join Clark for a talk about her time in Gees Bend as she shares intimate stories of these African American quilters and their families.

The Annapolis Jazztet is one of the finest small professional jazz groups in the Washington, Annapolis, Maryland and Virginia area. The exciting variety of sophisticated original musical arrangements by music director, Vince Corozine, is reminiscent of the sound of the great Dave Pell Octet in the 1960s. A sensational repertoire of classic songs which appeal to persons of all ages, and all songs are introduced with a bit of information about each. The Annapolis Jazztet comprises some of the finest and diverse musicians in the Annapolis, DC area.

Featured artists include Runqiao Du, Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Love the Poet, Michael Sakamoto, and more.
SoulCollage® is a creative process, developed by the late Seena Frost, which uses the art form of collage-making to enhance the journey of self-exploration. Seena Frost’s curriculum will guide us in creating our own personal deck of collage cards, consisting of five different “Suits.” Each class focuses on one suit as a way to explore both our inner and outer worlds. We will use already-made images from magazines to create original cards. make new pieces of art. These cards become a source of insight and inspiration as we share about our lives and our collages.
Admission is included in entry to The Construction Zone in the Atrium at Port Discovery, which is $5 per person for individuals two and over. Members and children under two enter for free.
