Intimate Apparel by Pulitzer winning playwright Lynn Nottage, delves into the life of Esther, a talented African American seamstress in early 20th century New York City. Specializing in creating exquisite lingerie, Esther navigates the complexities of love, identity, and ambition amidst the racial and social constraints of her time. Her interactions with clients from different walks of life reveal deep, personal stories of longing and resilience.

In just four weeks, you’ll learn all the big concepts you need to successfully perform on a musical improv team. That includes: song structure, musicality, improv content, scene-into-song, and a narrative format (Fairy Tale).

We celebrate Women's History Month with an action-packed show in the Pennant Room at Peabody Heights.

FACTS! makes its debut as part of Highwire's Greenhouse program, which supports new show ideas. FACTS! combines storytelling with musical improv. We then welcome Girl Car, a quintet from Lancaster, Pa., who will present a road trip you will never forget.

The evening closes with Baltimore superstars Babeprov, who will create comedic scenes based on the stories of Art of Solidarity co-founding director Maria Gabriela Aldana.

What is an improv show, exactly?

A discussion and music series dedicated to conservation and enjoyment of black music in both theory and practice. Through guest mixes and periodic deep dives into the history of this music, BAS serves as an alternative destination for black music discovery.

The late-night laughs come to the Lou Costello Room with two fantastic acts. First, the character-driven Cassette Files will build a weird, wild world you have to see to believe. After that, Improv Jeoparty turns the game show you thought you knew on its head, improv-style.

What is an improv show, exactly?

Maryland Opera is delighted to honor Susie & Sam Macfarlane with a concert of arias, duets, and scenes performed by singers of international acclaim with chamber orchestra. Mrs. Macfarlane was an anti-war activist and an advocate for older adults. Mr. Macfarlane was the CFO of Williams & Wilkins and Waverly Press as well as the Treasurer and a Trustee of the Baltimore Opera Company Board. The program, which includes selections from Aïda, Tosca, West Side Story, and more, will feature soprano Tasha Hokuao Koontz, mezzo-soprano Kate Jackman, and tenor Dane Suarez.

Columbia Pro Cantare will present “A Celebration of John Rutter,” Sunday, March 16, 2025, 4 pm, in the beautiful sanctuary of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road, Ellicott City. The concert will feature the Gloria of renowned English composer, conductor and arranger Sir John Rutter, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday. In addition to the dynamic Gloria, and Rutter’s “The Lord Bless You,” the program will include works by Z. Randall Stroope, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Andre J. Thomas, Thomas Tallis and others.

Join pianist Adam Makowicz and saxophonist Krystof Medyna for an evening of jazz at An die Musik Live!

Krystof Medyna and Adam Makowicz have been performing together since 2012. In August 2024, they recorded their first album “New York Flavors” under the label FOR TUNE, and in October they performed at the Kennedy Center. Their repertoire contains mainly American jazz standards and their own compositions.

Brazilian arts presenter EducArte welcomes Brazil’s most important samba band of all time: Grupo Fundo de Quintal (Backyard Group). Performing for the first time in the DC region, Fundo de Quintal is the most awarded and respected group in the history of samba pagode. They have defined the genre and created instruments that are now essential to the samba pagode, creating their signature sound that includes cavaco-banjo, tantã, and repique de mão.
