Film Screening: Rosenstrasse

Film Screening: Rosenstrasse

Please join the German American Cultural Center (GACC) at The Peale for an exciting film series in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University’s Germany on Campus.

Rosenstrasse (2003) is a film based on what is considered a significant event in German history as the only mass public demonstration by Germans in the Third Reich against the deportation of Jews. Set in 1943 Berlin, the film by Margarethe von Trotta, pieces together the story of the protest when non-Jewish women waited outside of a Nazi jail for their Jewish husbands. The protest led to the release of approximately 1,800 Berlin Jews. There are varying perspectives of both the protest and the film. Please join us and Dr. Victoria Harms, Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, to view and discuss the film.
