Embrace Spontaneity: an Intro to Improv

Join our 2-hour in-person workshop, "Embrace Spontaneity: Intro to Improv." It's a low-pressure, fun experience designed for newcomers. Connect with others through introductions, establish boundaries, and engage in energizing warmups, games, and collaborative scenes.
Get ready to embark on a low-pressure, fun-filled adventure that will unleash your creativity, boost your confidence, and ignite your sense of playfulness.
Led by our experienced and supportive instructors, this workshop is tailored to provide a safe and welcoming environment where you can step outside your comfort zone. We'll begin with a boundary check-in, where we establish guidelines for respect, trust, and collaboration. Then we'll dive into engaging improv warmups and games, designed to ignite your imagination, enhance your listening skills, and unlock your spontaneity.
Through interactive exercises and guided scenework, you'll discover the joy of working together, building on each other's ideas, and creating compelling scenes on the spot.
No prior experience in acting or improv is necessary. This workshop is specifically designed for individuals who are new to improv. Whether you're seeking a fun and unique experience, a chance to improve your communication skills, or simply a break from everyday routine, "Embrace Spontaneity" is the workshop for you!
About Your Instructors:
Jess Robey (she/her) discovered her passion for improv comedy five years ago during an intro to improv workshop, and she hasn’t looked back since. Based in Baltimore, Jess has performed at various theaters and spaces in cities across the East Coast.
Currently, Jess is a member of several Baltimore improv teams, including Babeprov, Croc Talk, Important Screws, Teen Angst, and the show she produces, Girl Talk.
Outside of improv, Jess finds joy in dancing, candle making, and writing. She sees improv as a liberating experience, allowing her to let go, have fun, and feel supported.
Keith Estrella (he/him) has been makin’ stuff up on a stage since November 2017, when he took his very first improv class at the Harrisburg Improv Theater in Harrisburg, PA. Since then he’s performed, taught, or coached there and in multiple locations within both Pennsylvania and the Baltimore, MD area. He’s taken the Zoom stage several times as well, learning and performing through World’s Greatest Improv School during the height of the pandemic. Last year, he even took his first transatlantic flight to perform at the Edinburgh International Improv Festival in the incredibly stony city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Currently he enjoys performing at the Baltimore Improv Group with his house team, Snake Oil, and a myriad of other indie teams in the Baltimore area including A++, Brad’s Dad, and Tabletop Live!. He is a proud cat-uncle to his housemate’s orange tabby Reece. Don’t let him talk to you about Dungeons and Dragons (unless you’re into that kind of thing).
