CABARET NOIR
“…Those who love Film Noir will be delighted, those who don’t care for it will be charmed and amused, and those who don’t know about it will never hereafter be able to take it seriously. A glimmer of story, a hatful of characters, a whisper of atmosphere, a smorgasbord of music and a scent of mystery.” – BroadwayWorld
“The Happenstance players move seamlessly in and out of dozens of roles, from serving girls to sirens, movie stars to mobsters, and show a versatility that had me convinced at times that there were more performers hiding in the wings, all cleverly disguised as one another.” – DC Metro Theatre Arts
CABARET NOIR
Happenstance Theater
October 24 – November 10
Happenstance Theater’s CABARET NOIR is a series of dark, comic vignettes featuring Femmes Fatales and fedoras, trench coats and torch songs, intrigue, suspense, and shadows. The ensemble mesmerizes in a virtuosic display of physical comedy, object manipulation, and period style, with music played on multiple instruments, and characters costumed in vintage attire.
“It’s a dynamite ensemble…there are numerous ingenious coup-de-theatres that surprise and delight.” – DC Theatre Scene
“The work of Happenstance is poetic, quirky, and unique. CABARET NOIR is a great example of all the company does so well.” – BroadwayWorld

Content Warning & Age Recommendation
Film noir often features morally ambiguous characters, cynical and disillusioned attitudes, a sense of pessimism, fatalism, and death. Our show is a poetic and humorous take on these elements and includes toy guns and fake cigarettes. Our age recommendation is 9 and up. For younger kids we recommend parental discretion.
