La descente d’Orphée aux enfers & Le mariage forcé

Director and harpsichordist Adam Pearl, in conjunction with Peabody Conservatory's Early Music Department, presents two short but decadent operas from the French baroque repertoire. By prefacing Marc-Antoine Charpentier's hour-long treatment of the Orpheus legend with the farcical interludes he wrote for Molière's The Forced Marriage, we hope to show two contrasting views on the subject of love and loss, treating the ancient myth as a ritual of salvation enacted in a madhouse.
