In recent times, the sound of three tenors has drawn an enthusiastic following throughout the world, but in the 17th century, musicians were especially fascinated by the sound of three high voices, either sopranos or violins. Our program explores the brilliance and beauty of the very special repertoire for three violins and basso continuo from some of Europe’s leading composers, including Gabrieli, Pachelbel, Purcell and Telemann. A cornucopia of delights!

This program of stunning 17th century works features Paul O’Dette, director and theorbo, who is one of the most influential figures in his field. He has been described as “the clearest case of genius ever to touch his instrument.” (Toronto Globe and Mail).

He will be joined by Cynthia Roberts, violin; Lydia Becker, violin; Ryan Cheng, violin; Christel Theilmann, viola da gamba; and Adam Pearl, harpsichord and organ.

Pro Musica Rara, Baltimore's “premier early music ensemble”, is a period instrument chamber music ensemble performing baroque, classical, and early romantic repertoire. There will be a pre-concert presentation at 2:30.
