Teen Class: Cuttlefish Casting

Teen Class: Cuttlefish Casting

In this 3-hour workshop, students will learn how to create a cast metal object or piece of jewelry. Cuttlefish casting is a method that allows the beginning student to participate in metal casting with immediate and exciting results. The bone of a cuttlefish (an animal similar to a squid) is carved to create a mold. Molten metal is then poured into the cuttlefish mold resulting in a metal replica of the carving. After carving and casting, students will learn how to finish the cast metal and will leave with a finished object or piece of jewelry.

This workshop is for teens age 12 and older. No experience necessary. Materials and snacks included.
