The Maryland State Arts Council is sponsoring a regional institute for artists, arts organizations, arts leaders, and arts supporters to gather for collaborative discussion and professional development. Entitled, “Creative Conversations,” this session is being conducted in partnership with the Maryland Citizens for the Arts, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Maryland Nonprofits and Maryland State Department of Education.
Veteran country performer, Scotty Williams, takes the audience back in time to the early 1990s when Garth Brook’s music saturated the airwaves and his performances dominated country music awards, including winning the “Artist of the ‘90s” award.
Marin Alsop opens the season with Beethoven’s "Eroica" Symphony, a work that changed the course of music history. Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Joseph Schwantner wrote his New Morning for the World for orchestra and narrator, capturing some of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s most eloquent words. Pianist Garrick Ohlsson returns to play Rachmaninoff’s scintillating Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

Mind on Fire
A modular musical arts cooperative. We're playing a vivid set of sound and video including Alexander Schubert's "Star Me Kitten," music about words, fear, glitches, and tennis for orchestra and powerpoint. Also featured will be Celeste Oram's instantaneous video canon, "Xerox Rock," and "Ah," a premier by Louna Dekker-Vargas of the Witches.

The illustrious Zukerman Trio elevates audiences with its "uncommon passion" (The Chicago Tribune) and precise ensemble. Led by the charisma and legendary musicianship of violinist Pinchas Zukerman, the Trio opens the season with Kodály's rhapsodic, rarely-heard duo, and two masterpieces by Arensky and Beethoven.
Join us as members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra perform chamber works in a beautiful candlelit setting, and stay to mingle with the musicians after the performance at a free post-concert reception! Concert and parking are FREE, with no tickets or reservations required.

The Harford Plein Air Festival Collectors' Preview Party is an annual outdoor painting competition and gallery sale presented by the Maryland Center for the Arts. The Collectors' Preview Party will be held Friday, September 28, 7:00-10:00pm at the Bel Air Armory in downtown Bel Air, Maryland. Guests will get to meet the juried artists participating in Harford Plein Air, see the paintings created of outdoor locations in Harford County, and will get to see which paintings win awards from art judge, Michael Skalka, Conservation Director at the National Gallery of Art.
Congratulate the juried artists in the 4th Annual Harford Plein Air Festival sponsored by the Maryland Center for the Arts on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 7pm-10pm, at the Bel Air Armory, and have the first opportunity to view and purchase their work at a reception prior to the public sale. High Zero is the premier festival of Improvised, Experimental music on the East Coast, being fully devoted to new collaborations between the most inspired improvisors from around the world. Celebrating its 20th year, High Zero is THE annual international improvisational avant-garde music event that reaches all over town and around the world.
The 4th Annual Harford Plein Air Festival, sponsored by the Maryland Center for the Arts, will hold its popular Quick Draw Competition on Saturday, September 29, from 8am-noon in downtown Bel Air. Artists of all ages are welcome to enter the timed, two-hour outdoor painting competition, award ceremony, and art sale.
